Joint Medal Parade – BRA/ARG/POR
SPEECH
BRAZILIAN POLICE CONTINGENT COMMANDER – Lt. Col Alessandro Soares
On behalf of the Argentinean, Brazilian, and Portuguese Contingent at UNMISS, I would like to thank you all for joining us to mark this JOINT MEDAL PARADE CEROMONY today. It is a tremendous honored to stand before you.
Firstly, I would like to highlight about the Brazilian Police Contingent at UNMISS. We were in total number of 7 IPO’s coming from 7 different State Police Agencies in Brazil. But now, we are 06 IPOs at UNMISS as about 23 days ago Capt. William Danilo Fernandes Pires, from the State Police of Rio Grande do Norte left UNMISS to join the UN Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement in YEMEN for a Tour of Duty of THREE MONTH. Our prayers have been with him since them. In addition, I would like to point out the great work of Captain Emmy and Lieutenants: FERNANDES and ESPERIDIÃO for their dedication and commitment to their responsibilities while Protecting Civilians and Empowering Women in South Sudan as part of the UN Mandate. You have been doing a wonderful job and greatly representing Brazil.
Secondly, I would like to address the Argentinean Contingent and congratulate them while celebrating its Flag’s Day today. Most of you came to Juba in the same day as myself and my two colleagues from the Portuguese Contingent as we were redeployed from UNIOGBIS – Guinea Bissau to UNMISS. Since then, it is being a great honor to see your interaction with all UNPOLs from many different countries represented at UNMISS. As a newly incoming contingent, with about 4 months in the mission, I know you all are a great asset to UNIMISS and strongly match the core values of the United Nations. I am sure that you are truly representing Argentina values and each one of you should be proud of yourselves.
Lastly, my words and my deference go to the Portuguese Police Contingent, officially represented in this ceremony by the Police Advisers: Sónia and Madalena. However, all of the 9 Police Advisers from Portugal played essential role in this mission. It is certain that you will be missed for sure after 10 days from today, as your End of Mission is fast approaching. Well done my friends.
Furthermore, I would like to call your attention to the Fantastic work performed by the WOMEN from these contingents: Police Adviser’s Antonella and Erazo from Bentiu FO. They are the first women from Argentina to join UNMISS. Emmy who is a protocol officer and is coordinating the UNMISS’s Women Network. Police Adviser Natália Ique is a Community Policing Officer and putting a lot effort Sónia who is a veteran from UNIOGBIS where I witnessed her amazing work in fulfilling the UN Mandate in the region of BAFATA. And Police Adviser Maria Madalena Taniça, who strongly represented Portugal in a variety of Positions like in the POC team like most of us, in Personnel, FPU coordination and part of the UN SAAT Team well representing UNMISS and Portugal.
In this mix of colors, backgrounds, and experience, whatever these women be placed – success and positive results are very likely to be achieved.
To conclude it, I would like to congratulate these UN Police officers who are about to receive their UN Medals today. This medal is a tribute to remind yourselves about your Tour of Duty in South Sudan while fighting for peace and helping the People of this country to have a better life and to pave its own path for a sustainable future.
The awarding of these UN Peacekeeping medals enhances our humanity and fills us with an immense pride, both as individuals and as nation.
So, in this opportunity it would not be fair if, personally, I would not recognize and commend my fellow UNPOLs from the Argentinean, Brazilian, and Portuguese Police colleagues in this mission, for their faultless discipline and high professionalism, displayed so far. These devoted, committed and disciplined officers made my tasks as a CC and, also their Contingent Commanders tasks – simpler and gratifying.
Please, accept our heartfelt appreciation for your presence here today and we do exhort you on continuing your unceasing support to UNMISS and keep up the great work representing our countries – Argentina, Brazil, and Portugal. Thank you for your outstanding service!
Thank you very much for your attention!
